In alignment with the strategic objectives of the K-WASH Program (Result Area 2), the County Departments of Water and Irrigation and Public Health and Sanitation have successfully concluded an intensive, week-long Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) Training of Trainers, facilitated by a team from the Ministry of Health. This initiative represents a critical milestone in our commitment to accelerating the achievement of Open Defecation Free (ODF) status across Tharaka Nithi County. The training program successfully equipped Public Health Officers with the advanced facilitation skills required to trigger community-led behavioral change. By blending rigorous theoretical sessions with practical field triggering exercises, our frontline officers are now proficient in facilitating the "walk of shame" and community mapping, developing localized, village-level strategies for immediate sanitation improvement and overseeing the construction of improved latrines utilizing local materials to ensure long-term durability and compliance with the rural sanitation and hygiene protocol. The high-impact week culminated in a closing ceremony graced by the CECM for Public Health and Medical Services, Dr. Gichuyia, Chief Officers Loise Mutua (Water and Irrigation), Benson Njeru (Public Health and Sanitation) and Rose Micheni (Medical Services), whose presence underscored the administration's support for integrated WASH interventions. With our field teams now fully aligned with K-WASH performance indicators and existing monitoring systems, we anticipate immediate and measurable improvements in community hygiene standards. ...
